SUBJECT:  POLICY ON CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND CHECKS

 

I.           STATEMENT OF POLICY:

 

1.        The Crofton Athletic Council is committed to maintaining a community and organization in which its membership and volunteers can participate and enjoy the purpose and mission of the "Council" in a safe atmosphere. As such, all coaches who have direct supervision of our youth participants shall be required to submit to a Criminal History Record Check as provided by The State of Maryland Criminal Justice Information System.

 

II.         ADMINISTRATION AND PROCEDURES:

 

1.        Any person who desires to supervise a CAC sponsored team shall provide a completed and signed state application for a Criminal History Record Check. The CAC state authorization number will be filled in on the application, along with the appropriate directions to return the Criminal History Record Check to the Crofton Athletic Council. Application for the Criminal History Record Check additionally requires a completed fingerprint card. The CAC shall provide the method for completing the fingerprint card.

 

2.        Each Criminal History Record Check shall consist of a State of Maryland Criminal History file search and a FBI Criminal History file search. FBI Criminal History Record Checks return specific data related to individuals in a position of child care or child supervision.

 

3.        All Criminal History Record Checks shall be for the sole and exclusive use of the Crofton Athletic Council. All Criminal History Record Checks shall be reviewed by the President and/or Secretary of the CAC, and then destroyed. The coaches file shall be noted appropriately.

 

4.        The Crofton Athletic Council shall be responsible for all fees associated with obtaining Criminal History Record Checks, inclusive of any fees associated with fingerprinting.

 

III.       DISTRIBUTION:

 

1.        Distribution to all Crofton Athletic Council Board Members, Commissioners,  and Coaches.

 

2.        Publication periodically in Crofton Athletic Council newsletters.

 

3.        Publication on the Crofton Athletic Council web site.
