SUBJECT: ADULT COACHES


I.STATEMENT OF POLICY:

a. All teams sponsored by the CAC shall have a CAC Certified Adult Head Coach in attendance of all practices and games. A CAC Certified Head Coach is an individual who has been selected by the sport commissioner based on their ability, training, past performance, and attitude; has submitted to a criminal history background check as required by the CAC and administered by the State of Maryland Criminal Justice Information System; is at least 21 years old; and has attended the General Coaches Clinic given by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks.

b. Assistant coaches are chosen by the head coach and approved by the individual sport commissioners. An assistant coach may be certified by the CAC at the request of a sport commissioner, and if certified can supervise the team in the absence of the head coach. To be certified the assistant coach shall submit to a criminal history background check as required by the CAC and administered by the State of Maryland Criminal Justice Information System; be at least 21 years old; and attend the General Coaches Clinic given by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks.

c. Team mothers and fathers are not considered to be coaches, however, they may assist the team during practices and games at the discretion of the coaching staff. Likewise, teenagers may also assist the team during practices and games but may not act in the capacity of a coach.


IIIMPLEMENTATION & MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS:

a. All coaches shall receive this policy as a part of the CAC Handbook for Commissioners and Coaches. Distribution of the handbook is provided by the CAC Administrative Assistant via the sport commissioners. On receipt of the handbook each coach shall provide for file a signed coaching registration form, a signed Coaches Code of Ethics, and a signed application for Criminal Background Check pursuant with CAC Board of Directors Policy #99-3.

b. The policies contained herein shall be binding as soon as possible following the re-issuance of this policy. All coaches shall be considered in a grace period while the policy is being implemented, however, all coaches shall have other adults present at practices and games pending completion of the certification process.

c. First time coaches shall have a one (1) season grace period prior to obtaining CAC certification. All coaches shall have other adults present at practices and games pending completion of the certification process. NOTE: The General Coaches Clinic given by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks is designed by them for county level coaching certification as that is the program offering by the county; the CAC requires all coaches attend the clinic.

d. The General Coaches Clinic given by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks for coaching certification with the county must be renewed every three years.

e. Certified CAC Adult Coaches who leave coaching in excess of one year shall be required to be re-certified with the CAC.


III.DISTRIBUTION

a. Distribution to all Crofton Athletic Council Board Members, Commissioners, and Coaches.

b. Publication periodically in Crofton Athletic Council newsletters.

c. Publication on the Crofton Athletic Council web site.
