Who Are We?
Crofton girls' field hockey has grown in the past few years both in size and
talent. We believe in playing hard and playing fair and expect all parents and
spectators to support athletes and coaches in a positive manner. We look forward
to seeing you at the fields this fall and hope you will enjoy representing the
Crofton Athletic Council and playing field hockey.
Where Are We?
Our home fields are at Crofton Middle School and the outfield of Crofton Park #1
softball field. All practices will be held at these locations. Please note that
fields may be closed when Crofton Middle School is hosting an evening event.
Making A Team.
There are no cuts in girls' field hockey and every player will be placed on a
team. The County creates three divisions of play to encourage players of all
abilities to get involved. We hold placements to determine the appropriate
levels for all of our teams and to select the best players for our 'A' teams.
Criteria for placements to the 'A' teams will depend upon the following:
coachability, work ethic, commitment to practice schedule, stick skills, game
sense, future potential, and speed.
Placements for the 2011 Season will be as follows:
Tuesday, July 19th
6:00 - 8:00 pm, check in no later than 5:45pm
Wednesday, July 20th
6:00 - 8:00pm, check in no later than 5:45pm
ALL PLACEMENT SESSIONS WILL BE HELD AT CROFTON MIDDLE SCHOOL.
Once the teams are formed, there will be no
changes. If you have a carpool request, the only way to ensure we see it is to
register on-line and type it in the Family Notes box. We make every effort to
accommodate carpool requests for Pee Wee and Sticklette level athletes. Car pool
requests for Middie and Junior level teams are typically not approved, however,
upon a demonstrated need, carpool requested athletes may be placed on the lowest
team in their division of play. You will be contacted by your coach before
August 1st.
NOTE - FIELD
HOCKEY REGISTRATION AND TEAM PLACEMENTS ARE DONE ON A CURRENT GRADE BASIS, NOT
ON A DATE OF BIRTH BASIS. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR GRADE IS ACCURATE ON YOUR
REGISTRATION.
Sticklette: (Kindergarten, First and Second
Graders)
Practices will begin in August with games played primarily on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, at Crofton Middle School, but can be anywhere in Anne Arundel County.
Games are played without a goalie on a half field. Focus is on skill building
and FUN!!
PeeWee: (Third and Fourth Graders)
This is the first level of "county" play with a goalie. Games are
played on half field. Practices begin in August and are held at Crofton Middle
School. Games are played on weekends with some games played during the weeks
around Anne Arundel County. The focus will continue to be on skill building.
Middie: (Fifth and Sixth Graders) The "Middies" play around the County on
weekends and occasional weekdays. While the focus is always on skill building,
this level is broken into three divisions, A, B, and C. As such, players will be
placed by ability. PeeWee athletes may "play up," providing they attend the
proper placements, the evaluators believe the athlete does not pose a safety
issue and there is room on one of the Middie teams. That decision will be up to
the commissioner and the evaluators. Most games will be played on high school
turf fields, some games may be played on grass. Turf shoes recommended.
Juniors: (Seventh and Eighth Graders)
The Juniors play around the County on weekends and occasional weekdays. Juniors
will play a shorter season than Middies, but will participate in County
playoffs. Middie athletes may "play up," providing attend the proper placements,
the evaluators do not believe that the athlete poses a safety issue and there is
room on one of the Junior teams. That decision will be up to the commissioner
and the evaluators. The majority of games will be played on high school turf
fields. Turf shoes are highly recommended for this level of play.
Seniors: All High School Athletes NOT PLAYING
ON A HIGH SCHOOL TEAM
Senior league registration is handled directly with Anne Arundel County. The
County has a league for 9th - 12th grade athletes who are not playing on a high
school team. Contact Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks directly.
Equipment:
All players receive a jersey. A deposit will be required in the form of a post
dated check. When your jersey is returned, your check will be returned to you or
destroyed. All players will receive uniform socks which are yours to keep.
Players are to wear black kilts. You may purchase a Crofton kilt that has
compression shorts built in for $25. The kilts are the same ones that are used
for lacrosse. A limited number of used kilts may be available at placement
sessions to purchase or trade.
Otherwise, each athlete will need a stick, shin guards and a mouth guard. Cleats
or turf shoes, depending upon level are recommended but not mandatory. Any
player who arrives at practice or placements without shin guards and a mouth
guard will NOT be allowed to participate. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Please contact me if
you have any questions and/or concerns. NEW THIS YEAR - EACH ATHLETE IS REQUIRED
TO WEAR EYE PROTECTION. Please see AA County guidelines regarding acceptable eye
protection.
First games of the season commence on August 31st. Sch
edules will be posted at
