Spring  Baseball
In the spring of 2008, the Crofton Athletic Council (CAC) will introduce a new Travel Baseball concept for its county baseball teams. Registration deadline is January 31, 2008. You must be registered for Travel Baseball to complete the tryout process.

Teams will be formed via the tryout process which will be held in early February.  This is in response to the requests of players and parents who are interested in supplementing the regular county baseball schedule (usually 12-15 games) with additional games and tournaments. There will be one 10U, one 12U, and as many 14U teams as needed. Everyone signing up for 14U will play in this Travel league.

Participation on a travel team will require an additional commitment of time and money on the part of those families who choose to participate.  A player, who tries out for a 10U & 12U travel team but is not selected, will be placed in the Cal Ripken league.

In addition to the Travel League, CAC will convert our intramural program to the Cal Ripken Baseball League. Tee Ball and Cal Ball will stay the same as last year. 8U, 10U and the new addition of 12U will be affiliated with the Cal Ripken Baseball League. It will also have tournaments and All Star teams eligible for post season play.

Winter Baseball Workouts
Crofton Baseball will host winter workouts at Extra Innings in Bowie every Monday in January. 10u, 12u will be from 6:00-7:30 and 14u will be from 7:30-9:00. Cost will be $15 per session or $50 for all 4. The workouts will get the boys loose and ready for February tryouts.

There will be one 10U, one 12U, and as many 14U teams as needed. Everyone signing up for 14U will play in this Travel league. At the 14U level, parent and player interest will dictate the amount of pre and post season play each team get involved with.

Participation on a travel team will require an additional commitment of time and money on the part of those families who choose to participate.  A player, who tries out for a 10U & 12U travel team but is not selected, will return to the pool of players within the Cal Ripken league.

The following is a sample schedule and an estimate of the costs for a typical (12 player) travel team.

·         February – Travel teams formed and begin indoor workouts $40.00 per player

·         April – Preseason tournament $40.00 per player

·         April – County season begins (no additional cost)

·         May – Memorial Day tournament $40.00 per player

·         June – Post season tournament $40.00 per player

·         July – Post season tournament $40.00 per player

Based on the estimate listed above, the additional cost for participation on a travel team would be approximately $160.00. Participation in 4 or 5 tournaments will result in 12-15 additional games. The above estimates are for illustration only and will vary depending on the individual team and the number of tournaments entered. These additional expenditures will be determined by the consensus of the team and will be borne solely by the members of each team.

Volunteers are always welcome and needed. If you are interested in helping out, please send an email to countybase@croftonsports.com. All volunteers are required to complete a background check. Coaches need to be certified via the county’s coaching clinic.
